This is the last Will and Testament of me James Smith of Hose in the County of Leicester Labourer
I give and bequeath unto my Son Mark, Kitto’s Pictorial Bible
Unto my Son Josiah my Clock
Unto my daughter Ann my dressing Glass, Hearth Rug, and the Gallon Brass pan
And unto my grandson George Smith my Watch
The whole of the remainder of my Goods and Effects to be sold, the produce of which, together with any monies of which I may be possessed at the time of my decease to be equally divided between my sons and daughters as follows – my Son Isaac now living at Hose My Son Mark now living at Mount Sorrel My Son Joseph now living at Acton my daughter Ann now living at Salford [sic] My daughter Emma now living at Queens Town, Africa Subject to the payment of my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses
And I appoint my Son Mark Smith Sole Executor of this my Will
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of April One thousand eight hundred and seventy eight

The Testator James Smith was late of Hose in the County of Leicester Labourer and died on the Fourth day of May 1879 at Hose aforesaid
