There are two copies of this will in the archives, both in easy to read condition
In the name of God amen the 18th day of September in the Third years of the reign of our Sovereign Lord and Lady King William and Queen Mary And in the yeare of our Lord God 1691 I Catharine Clarke of Wartnaby in the County of Leicester Widdow being sick and weake in body but of sound and perfect memory praysed be God for the same and knowing the Incertainty of this Life on Earth and being desirous to settle things in order do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say
First and Principally I commend my Soul to Almighty God my creator and my body to the earth from when it was taken in such decent and Christian manner as my Executrix hereafter named shall think meet and convenient
And as touching such worldly Estate as the Lord in mercy hath lent me my will and meaning is the same shall be imployed and bestowed as hereafter by this my will is expressed
In the first place I declare and appoint this only to be my last will and Testament
Item I give and bequeath unto my Son John Clarke the Sum of one Shilling to buy him a Paire of Gloves
Item I give unto my Son in Law Charles Bennet of Woodthorpe the Sum of Five Shillings
Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Catharine Bennet the Sum of Five Shillings
Item I give and bequeath unto Robert Bennet the Son of the aforesaid Charles and Catherine Bennet the Sum of Four Pounds of Lawfull English moneys
Item I give unto John Bennet the Son of the same Charles and Catharine Bennet the Sum of five Shillings
Item I give and bequeath unto Charles Bennet the Son of Charles and Catherine Bennet the Sum of Five Shillings to be payd and also the other Legacyes within the Space of one yeare after my departure but if the said Robert Bennet should depart this Life before the Time be expired for the Payment of the moneys Then my will is that the same four pounds shall be equally devided between the aforementioned Two Brothers John and Charles Bennet
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Clarke all and singular my Goods wares houshold Stuff ready moneys and moneys on Bond And all other things both real and Personall whatsoever they be and in whose hands Custody or possession soever the same or any of them or any part thereof can or may be found remaining and being as well in the Messuage or Tenement with the Appurtenances wherein I doe dwell as in any other place or house whatsoever within the said Towne or County whome I make my full and sole Executrix
