Thomas Houghton of Scalford 1741 Will and Inventory

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Houghton of the Grange in the parish of Scalford in the County of Leicester Grazier being Sick and Weak in Body but of Sound Mind and Memory and Considering the uncertainty of this life Doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in Manner and forme following (That is to Say)

First of all I give my Soul to God that gave it me And my Body I committ to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of [“my” missing] Executrix hereinafter named

And as for my Worldly Estate which hath pleased God to bless me with I give and Dispose thereof As follows

In the first place I give and bequeath unto my Brother John Houghton of Saxelby in the said County of Leicester Farmer the Sume of one Shilling to be paid him by my Executrix hereinafter named within Six Months after my decease

And Also I give and bequeath unto my Brother Anthony Houghton of Grimston in the Said County of Leicester Farmer the Sume of Ten pounds to be paid him by my Said Executrix within Six Months next after my decease

And Also I give and bequeath unto my Brother William Houghton of Wartnaby in the Said County of Leicester Farmer the Sume of one Shilling to be paid him by my Said Executrix within Six Months next after my decease

And Also I give and bequeath unto my Sister Mary Marriott the Wife of Henry Marriott of Asfordby in the said County of Leicester Farmer the Sume of Ten pounds to be paid her by my Said Executrix within Six months after my decease

And Also I give and bequeath unto Jane Forman the Wife of Thomas Forman of Waltham in the Said County of Leicester Farmer the Sume of Ten pounds to be paid her by my said Executrix within Six Months next after my decease

And Also I give and bequeath unto my Sister Ann Cooley the Wife of John Cooley of Asfordby aforesaid Farmer the Sume of Ten pounds to be paid her by my Said Executrix within Six Months next after my decease

And Also I give and bequeath unto my father Anthony Houghton of Asfordby aforesaid the Sume of five pounds to be paid him by my Said Executrix within Six Months next after my decease

And Also I give and bequeath unto Robert Draper of Scalford aforesaid Farmer the like Sume of five pounds to be paid him by my Said Executrix within Six Months next after my decease

And Lastly all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Cattle Chattells rights Creditts and personal Estate of what kind or nature soever not hereinbefore by me given bequeathed and disposed of (my Debts legacies and Funerall Expences being first paid and discharged) I give and bequeath unto my Dear and loving Wife Mary Houghton whom I doe hereby Appoint full and Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament revokeing all former Wills by me att any time heretofore made

In Witness whereof I the Said Thomas Houghton the Testator have hereunto putt my hand and Seale this four and Twentieth day of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty
