In the name of God Amen I Simon Stevenson of Scalford in the County of Leister being weake of body but of perfect memory & understanding praised bee God therefore doe make & ordaine this my Last will & testament in maner & forme following
First I bequeath my soule into the hands of Almighty God hoping to bee saved onely by the merits of Jesus xt my Saviour my body I comitt unto the earth decently to bee interred at the discretion of my executor And for that worldly estate which God has lent mee I dispose of it as followeth
First I give & bequeath unto my eldest Son Thomas Stevenson all that Messuage house & tenement with all the appurtenances in Scalford wherein I now dwell, together with all those two yard Land & a halfe And likewise all that Cottage which I bought of Henry Darker now in the occupation of Christopher Blower with all the appurtenances I give & bequeath the same unto my abovenamed Son and to his heires for ever
Item I give unto my Second Son John Stevenson of Bottesford in the County of Leister one hundred pounds of current money of England to bee paied to him his heires executors or administrators within five years next after my decease
Ite I give & bequeath unto my Loving wife Alice Stevenson the one half of all my household goods whatsoever which being equally divided shee shall make choice of which part shee please
Ite my will is that if my sd wife thinks not good to live with my eldest son That then hee shall pay her ten pounds a yeare in leiu of her joynture so long as shee live, fetch her one load of coales, & pay for them likewise at the pitts, in every yeare of her life & that shee shall have if shee please the upper parlour & the … called B… a Mussons house, & the chamber over it with the buttery adjoyning & the little garden at the doore
And my will is that if my wife survive my sd son then whoever shall succeede in the land shall doe the like
Also I give unto my two daughters Elizabeth & Anne twenty shillings a piece to bee payed in Current money within one year next after my decease
Also I give unto the poore of Scalford twenty shillings to bee distributed within one month after my decease
All the rest of my goods cattels & chattels debts dues bills bonds or whatever the same shalbee I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Thomas Stevenson whom I make full & sole executor of this my Last will & testament, made sealed & signed the twentieth day of May in the fourteenth yeare of the reigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the 2d of England Scotland France & Ireland King &c And in the yeare of our Ld xt 1662
