Joseph Key of Long Clawson 1699 Will and Inventory

In the name of God Amen the twelfth day of January 1698 according to the computation of the Church of England I Joseph Key of Claxton als Long Clauson in the County of Leicester Labourer being sick & weak of body but of a sound & perfect mind & memory Blessed be Almighty God for it do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following, that is to say
First & principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping through the meritts of Jesus Christ my onely saviour & redeemer to receive pardon of all my sinnes & be made a partaker of life everlasting
And as for my body I comit to the Earth from whenc it was taken to be buryed in such manner as my Executrix hereafter named shal think fit & convenient
And as touching that temporal estate which the Lord in mercy hath lent me I dispose of it in manner and forme following That is to say
First I give & bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth Key the fourth part of my estate let is rise to what it will & my mind is that this fourth part shall be in lew of any thirds that she may or shal claim
Item I give & bequeath unto my sons Thomas Key, Joseph Key, & Elizabethe Key my other three parts of my estate to be equally devided amongst them but my mind is that while my wife keeps her unmarried that she have all my estate & to dispose of it to my children as she thinks convenient bringing up my children, but if she marry, I will that she onely have a fourth part as above said & the three other parts be divided share & share alike as abovesaid & I will that my three children have their shares whenever she marrieth
Item I will that my debts be paid & funeral expences be first discharged & I make my loving wife Sole Executrix of this my last Will & Testament
Thus revoking all former wills by me made I make this my last Will & Testament the day & year abovesaid, & I further declare that my mind is that John Moore of Long Clauson & Robert Lee of Waltham be overseers of this my last Will & Testament
