Can you help us trace Hannah Belton?
We are trying to trace Hannah Belton who married Josiah Kemp in Hickling on the 27th October 1799:
- The original of the Parish Record is reasonably legible; Josiah Kemp of Cotgrave and Hannah Belton of ‘this Parish’.
- There are a small number of Belton family records in Hickling from 1638 to 1803 but none for Hannah – it’s possible she was living with wider family in Hickling at the time of her marriage.
- One possibility is that Margaret Belton (bap.1767) was known as Hannah because her mother’s name was also Margaret or simply that the clerk wrote her name wrongly in the original parish record.
- Her family in New Zealand believe that she may have been baptised in either 1779 or 1784 and that she may have died in Widmerpool.
- Wider searches for Hannah (Belton) Kemp haven’t brought anything to light, so far.
- We have also explored mis-transcriptions with no luck; for example, a Hickling baptism for Hannah Noton in 1777 was legible as ‘Noton’ in the original record.
- There are no Belton family census records in Hickling (1841-1921).
We would love to hear from you, if you can help; in the meantime we hope to get a little more information from the family:
- sources for the possible baptism and death dates/records.
- any other UK locations linked to the family which may help us to isolate searches.
- whether any of the Parish Records (above) connect with information already know to them.
