Mary Carless of Long Clawson 1886 Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me Mary Carless late of Long Clawson in the County of Leicester but now of the Town of Nottingham Spinster
I revoke all wills and codicils at any time heretofore made by me
I appoint Francis Adams of Seventeen Bread Street Hill in the City of London Wholesale Stationer and Edward Doubleday of Long Clawson aforesaid Farmer Trustees and Executors of this my will and declare that the term “my Trustees” hereinafter named shall include and that all powers and trusts hereby reposed may be exercised by not only the said Francis Adams and Edward Doubleday but also the survivor of them and the executors or administrators of such survivor and also all other the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my Will
I direct the payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses as soon as conveniently may be after my decease
I bequeath to each of my Trustees and Executors above named the legacy of Twenty pounds as a small acknowledgement of their trouble in proving and carrying out the trusts of this my Will
I bequeath to John Moore Swain the sum of Twenty pounds as a recognition of his medical attention and kindness to me during a long indisposition
I bequeath to Annie Crafts Doubleday the legacy of Twenty pounds for her kindness to me
I give and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my Trustees Upon the trusts and for the persons following that is to say
Upon trust as to my four shares of One hundred pounds each in the Brighton Corporation Waterworks numbered respectively One thousand and thirty one One thousand and thirty two One thousand and thirty three and One thousand and thirty four to pay the annual income and dividends arising therefrom to my Niece Isabel Martin for her life the same to be paid to her for her sole and separate use free from the debts and control or engagements of her present or any future husband and to be without any power of anticipation And upon and after the death of the said Isabel Martin my Trustees shall have power to sell such shares and shall then stand possessed of the proceeds thereof or if the said shares is not so sold Upon trust to divide the same between and amongst such of the children of the said Isabel Martin as shall then be living in equal shares and proportions
I bequeath four shares of One hundred pounds each which I hold in the said Brighton Corporation Waterworks to my niece Marian Carless for her own sole use and benefit
I give and bequeath all my bonds or stock of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand unto my nieces Elizabeth Ann Carless and Julia Carless absolutely in equal shares
I give and bequeath six shares of One hundred pounds each in the said Brighton Corporation Waterworks to my niece Jessie Carless absolutely
I give to my sister in law Mary Hannah Carless a legacy of Ten pounds
I direct that all proper costs charges and expenses (including stamp and registration fees) attending the transfer of all or any shares hereinbefore bequeathed into the names of the persons entitled thereto shall be paid out of my residuary estate and that the legacies hereinbefore bequeathed shall be free of legacy duty
I give and bequeath all my clothes trinkets and jewellery unto my said Nieces Jessie and Julia Carless equally And I direct my Trustees to stand seized and possessed of my real estate and all the residue and remainder of my personal estate Upon trust to convey transfer and assign the same unto my said nieces Jessie and Julia Carless in equal shares as tenants in common

This is a Codicil to the above Will of me Mary Carless
I revoke the gift of my real estate and the residue of my personal estate therein contained And I now direct my Trustees to sell my real estate & convert into money the residue of my personal estate and to divide the proceeds of such sale and conversion equally between my Nieces Jessie Julia and Marian Carless and Isabel Martin share and share alike

This is a second Codicil to my before written Will. I revoke the gift and bequest of the share of all my bonds or stock of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand unto my Niece Elizabeth Ann Carless and in lieu thereof I give & bequeath such share unto my Nephews Plaxton Carless and Frank Carless Upon trust to pay the dividends thereof or of the investment of the proceeds thereof unto my said Niece Elizabeth Ann Carless for her life or until she shall attempt to sell mortgage or in any way dispose of the same or anticipate the same And upon her death or the happening of such last mentioned events Upon trust to retain out of the corpus the sum of Twenty pounds each and to pay and divide the residue equally between my four nieces mentioned in my first Codicil

This is my third Codicil the other two being on the Will
I now revoke all I have formerly said as refers to money left to my Niece Isabel deceased and leave two Bonds (of £100 each) in the Brighton Corporation Water Works to my Niece Julia Carless and two Bonds in the same Brighton Corporation Water Works in trust to my Nephew Plaxton S Carless and his brother Frank Carless for the use of the Boys left by my Niece Isabel Martin as they think advisable

Proved at Leicester with three Codicils on the Nineteenth day of February 1886 by the Oaths of Francis Adams and Edward Doubleday the Executors named in the Will to whom Administration was granted.
The Testatrix Mary Carless was formerly of the Town of Nottingham and late of Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Spinster and died on the twenty sixth day of November 1885 at Long Clawson aforesaid
