In the name of God amen I Robert Hickling of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson in the County of Leicester Weaver being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this mortal Life to make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say)
First and principally I commend my soul unto the Almighty who gave it and my body I commit the Earth to be decently buried at the charge and discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named and for such Temporal Estate as it hath pleas’d the Almighty to bestow upon me I give and devise the Same in manner following
Imprimis I give and Devise all my Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever with their and every of their Appurtenances Scituate Standing Lying and being in the parish and Liberties of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid unto my dear and loving Wife Sarah Hickling for and during the term that she shall remain my widow or if she continue unmarried for and during the term of her naturall Life and from and after her marriage or from and after her decease I give and devise the same unto my Couzin Edward Hickling of Croxton Kerrial in the said county of Leicester Shoemake and to his heirs and assigns for every subject nevertheless to the payment of Thirty five pounds to such person and persons and in such manner and form as is hereinafter mentioned (that is to say)
With the payment of the sum of fifteen pounds part of the said sum of Thirty five pounds unto Mary the wife of John Dixon of Eastwell in the said County of Leicester Grazier and fifteen pounds other part of the said sum of Thirty five pounds unto Elizabeth the Wife of William Rimington of Croxton Kerrial aforesaid Husbandman and the sum of five pounds the residue of the said sum thirty five pounds unto the Vicar and Churchwardens of the parish of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid to be by them distributed to and amongst the poor of Claxton otherwise Long Clawson aforesaid in such manner as they or the major of them shall think proper and I will and direct the said Legacies shall be paid to the several and respective Legatees by the said Edward Hickling or his heirs with Six Months after he or they shall become possessed of the above Demised Premises
All the rest and residue of my Goods Chattels Cattle and Personal Estate whatsoever not herein before disposed of I give and bequeath unto my said dear and loving Wife Sarah Hickling whom I hereby appoint full and sole Executrix of this my Will hereby revoking all former wills at any time heretofore by me made declaring this to be my Last Will and Testament
In wittness whereof I the said Robert Hickling the Testator have hereunto set my Hand and seal this Twentieth day of April Anno Domini One thousand seven Hundred and Sixty Eight
