This is the last Will and Testament of me John Johnson of Old Dalby in the County of Leicester, Farmer as follows (that is to say)

First I Will and direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary Expences be in the first place paid off and discharged by my Executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease from and out of my personal Estate

I Give and bequeath to my Son John Johnson the Sum of Five pounds

I Give and bequeath to my Daughter Ann Palmer the Wife of John Palmer of Old Dalby aforesaid Cottager and Joiner the Sum of Ten Pounds

I Give and bequeath to Louiza Bates the Wife of Peter Bates of Wymeswould in the said County of Leicester Labourer the Sum of Five Pounds

I Give and bequeath to Betsy Johnson my Granddaughter the Sum of Five Pounds

I Give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Wells the Wife of Charles Wells of Hungarton in the said County of Leicester Labourer the Sum of One hundred pounds but if she should happen to die then I Give and bequeath the same to her two daughters Lizzie Wells and Ann Wells equally between them all which said several Legacies I do hereby Will and direct shall be paid to the respective Legatees at the end of two years from my decease from and out of my personal estate

I Give and bequeath to my Son Parker Johnson All my farming Stock both live and dead, Household Goods and Furniture Plate Linen China Book debts Money and securities for money and all other my personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever on condition of him finding and providing a comfortable and suitable maintenance for my daughter Mary Johnson so long as she shall live but if it shall happen that she shall leave him, then he shall pay and allow her the Sum of Five shillings per week in lieu thereof and I humbly hope that my worthy Landlord the Reverend William George Sawyer will be pleased to allow him continue in the possession and hold the same Farm which I now occupy and rent of him at Old Dalby aforesaid

And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Son Parker Johnson and my Son William Johnson the joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made

In Witness whereof I the said Testator John Johnson have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand this first day of July one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine

Signed by the said John Johnson the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us, who in his presence at his request and present at the same time and in the presence of each other have subscribed our Names as Witnesses hereto

I John Johnson of Old Dalby in the County of Leicester revoke that part of my Will which relates to my Son John Johnson and my daughter Ann Palmer the wife of John Palmer Carpenter of the parish of Old Dalby, and also the time of payment of all and every legacy named in this my last Will

I hereby direct my Executors to pay my Son John Johnson Ten Pounds instead of Five Pounds to an Ann Palmer the Wife of John Palmer Twenty Pounds instead of Ten Pounds and I also direct that the said Legacies and all and every other mentioned in my Will be paid at or before the expiration of one year after my death

In Witness whereof I set my hand this fourth day of July One thousand eight hundred and seventy three

The above Codicil signed and sealed by the said John Johnson in the presence of us at his request

Proved at Leicester with a Codicil the fifth day of February 1874 by the Oaths of Parker Johnson and William Johnson Sons of the deceased the Executors named in the Will to whom Administration was granted

The Testator John Johnson was late of Old Dalby in the County of Leicester Farmer and died on the sixteenth day of July 1873 at Old Dalby aforesaid
