In the name of God Amen The xxith daie of Januarye in the yeare of our Lord God 1587 and in the xxxth yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraign Ladie Elizabeth by the grace of God of England France & Ireland Queene defender of the faith &c I John Pares of Ab Kettlebye in the Countie of Leicester husbandman being of whole mynde & in good & perfect remembrance praised be god therefore doe make & ordaine this my present Testament conteyninge therein my last Will in manner and forme followinge
First I comende my Soule into the hands of Almightie God maker of heaven & Earth & of all things conteyned therein assuring my selfe of eternall salvation threwe Christ Jesus our Saviour knowing to be saved through him & by no other waies or meanes and my bodie to be buried in the parishe Churche of Ab Kettlebye assuring my selfe also that this same my bodie shall rise againe at the last daie unto eternall life
Item I geve & bequethe unto Agnes Pares my wife the house which I nowe dwell in with all the appurtenances during those five yeares next followinge whiche I have taken it for of John Collins & Marye his wife
Item I geve to my three children which are unmarried tenne pounds apeece that is to saye unto Michaell my Sonne x li to Robart my Sonne x li & to Marye my Daughter x li
Item I geve to Edward Pares my Sonne xiid
Item I geve to my Sonne Edward Pares his three children one foole whiche my Sonne John Pares of Garthorpe Bequeathed unto me
Item I geve & bequeath unto Dorathie my Daughter the wife of William Sheppson vid
Item I geve unto George Sheppson one sheepe hogge the best he can chuse when … be taken out of the whole
Item I geve to everie one of William Sheppsons Daughters viiid a peece
Item I geve to Allice my Daughter the wife of William Floure xiid & to everie one of her Daughters vid
Item I geve to Agnes my Daughter the wife of William Cooke vid
Item to her Sonne iiiid
Item I ordain & make John Bailie of Holwell and Edward Pares of Wartnabie Overseers of this my last will and Testament & I geve them for theire paynes fyve shillings
The reste of all my Goods unbequeathed I geve unto Agnes Pares my Wyfe whome I make my full & whole Executrixe of this my last will and Testament
