In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Stevenson of Scalford in the Countye of Leister being weak of body but of perfect memory & understanding (praised be God therefore) doe make & ordaine this my last will & testament in maner & forme following
First I bequeath my soule into the hands of Almighty God hoping for salvation onely by the merits of his Son Jesus xt
My body I bequeath unto the earth of which it is made decently to bee interred at the discretion of my executor hoping for a joyfull resurrection at the last day
And for that worldly estate which god hath lent mee I dispose of it as followeth
First I give & bequeath unto my eldest son Willm Stevenson & his heires for ever the house homestead with the appurtenances that I now live in, together with all the land I have in the fields of Scalford, & the Cottage house in the occupation of Christopher Blower with the appurtenances all which were given mee by my father together with the Land I purchased of Thomas Moore, I Say I give it all to my eldest son Willm under the conditions hereafter mentioned viz
My will is that five pounds a yeare shalbee payed out of the land into the hands of my loving Brother in Law Stephen Awood, & my Cousin Thomas Francke the younger of Quenyborough towards the raising of a portion for my youngest son & this to bee payed yearly till my eldest son accomplish the age of one & twenty yeares and after that the Cottage abovementioned with the land was purchased of Mr Darker shall remaine in the hands of my abovenamed Friends Stephen Awood & Thomas Franck as feoffees in trust to be … for ten yeares more for the benefit of my youngest son, unlesse his elder brother thinke good to pay him fouer score pounds in ready money which my desire is that he would doe towards the bettering of his portion, & in case the abovenamed five pounds a year bee not payed my will is the above named feoffees shall enter upon all or any part of the land & make up of it to the above named purpose
Item I give unto my daughter Alice one hundred pounds of Current money to bee payed when shee accomplish the age of one twenty yeares & in case shee dye before her portion to come to the youngest of my sons and in case hee dye before hee come to that age half of his portion come to her
Also I give unto her one halfe of all my household goods whatever, being divided by my abovenamed friends
The other halfe I give unto my Loving wife, & power to chuse which part shee please after the division
Also my will is that my children continue with their mother during her widdowhood, but in case shee shall marry againe my will is That my children with the … & portions which I have sett them shall come into the hands of my Loving Friends above named or if they rather chuse to live with their mother That then those friends of mine shall have bond given them to secure the paiment of my childrens portions such as shalbe sufficient
Also I give twenty shillings to the poore of Scalford
All the reste of my goods bills bonds debts corne graine cattell or whatever the same shalbe I give & bequeath the same unto my Loving wife Anne Stevenson whom I make sole Executrix of this my Last will & testament sealed & published the thirteenth day of October in the yeare of our Ld xt 1671
