In the name of God amen September the 18th 1676 I George Stoakes of Grimston in the Parish of Rothley in the County of Leic husbandman beinge weake of body but of good & perfect memorie praysed be the Lord for the same doe ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner & forme followinge
First I give & bequeath my Soule to Allmighty God my Creator hopeinge & verily assuringe myself through the Lord his Mercies & Christs merits to be partaker of Life Everlastinge & my body I bequeath to the Earth from whence it was taken to be buried in Christian buriall in the church yarde of Grimston aforesaid at the Discretion of my Executrix & for my worldly Goods which the Lord hath endued me with I doe dispose of them in manner & forme following
First I give unto my wife Ann Stoakes & George Stoakes my sonne my house & land at South Croson
Item I make my loveing wife Executrix of all my Goods shee paying my funerall charges & Debts whatsoever and this I make my last Will and Testament
In Wittnesse whereof I have sett my hand and Seale the day and yeare first above written

Bond, bound George Allen yeoman of South Croxton and John Burbage yeoman of Gadsby 10 October 1676, condition bound George Allen tutor and curator of George Stokes son of George Stokes late of Grimston and administrator during minority of George according to tenor of will, do administer estate and produce inventory
Another bond of the same date says that George Allen is administrator according to the tenor of the will and that the tuition[MJ1] and education of George the son is committed to him and he is to “well & conveniently educate & bring up the sd George Stoakes with sufficient meate drinke lodging & apparell meet & decent for his Estate & calling dureinge [his] minority”.
