Thomas Welby of Scalford 1671 Will and Inventory

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Welby of Scalford in the Countye of Leister being weake of body but of perfect memory & understanding (praised bee God therefore) doe make this my last will & testament in maner & forme following
First I bequeath my soule into the hands of Almighty God hoping to bee saved onely by the merits & mediation of his Son Jesus xt my body I bequeath unto the earth from whence it was taken decently to bee interr’d at the discretion of my Executrix hoping for a joyfull resurrection at the coming of our Ld Jesus xt
And for that worldly estate wch God hath lent mee I dispose of it as followeth
First I give unto my Loving wife Alice Welby the house I live in with the appurtenances, & also half the land I have in the fields of Scalford during the terme of her natural life, the other halfe of the land I give to my eldest Son desiring his mother he may live with her till hee come to age or bee put to some trade, & if hee bee willing to take a trade then that money bee raised out of the rent of his part of the land to that purpose
The house & land I also give him after my wifes decease according to a settlement that was made thereof on marriage
Also my will is That my eldest son Thomas Welbe after hee cometh to the age of one & twenty yeares shall pay unto his sister Elizabeth five pounds of Current English money if shee bee then living; or else let her enjoy his part of the land for three yeares next ensuing
Also I give unto my second son Willm the close I bought of Willm Chesterton, to him & his heires for ever, my sister being first satisfyed the debt shee hath upon it
Also I acknowledge my selfe to owe unto my eldest daughter Mary five pounds wch her Aunt Anne gave her, & my will is that it bee payed her
And doe further give her ten pounds more when shee come to the age of one & twenty yeares
Also my will is that the other five pounds shalbee improved what it may bee for her of after the day of my decease
Also I give unto my youngest daughter Elizabeth five pounds to bee payed when shee comes to the age of one & twenty yeares beside the other five pounds I have appointed my son to pay her
All the rest of my goods chattells & cattels bills bonds debts dues and demands whatever (my debts being payed & funerall chardges deducted) I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Alice Welby whom I make sole Executrix of this my last will & testament
