All Wills are transcripts from original documents and each transcript is included under the surname of the individual whose Will it is; the Testator.

Since people’s surnames were often spelled differently not only in their own lifetime but even in the same document we have used just one spelling for each surname in the index to ensure that multiple entries for one person will be grouped together.  Thus Faux, Fauxe, Fawkes, Fowkes, Falkes, Fawlkes, Faulkes, Faulks etc have just been indexed under the more usual modern spelling of Faulks.

Two examples which may be less obvious are Patchett, which has been indexed under Paget, and Challand, which has been indexed under Jalland.
